Oh, and Let's Talk About Shoes, Shall We?

If you already work in a restaurant, which is highly recommended if you are considering becoming a sommelier, you know about sensible footwear. What do I mean? Two words-rubber soles. Why? Walk into any restaurant kitchen, from the back door street entrance, and things will become clear.

Tip

You must have comfortable, sensible shoes, but your outfits can be fabulous. As long as you have pockets for your equipment (openers, coasters, keys, pens) you may wear whatever is suitable per your establishment, fashion sense, and budget. Keep in mind, however, that your clothing will take a beating, especially the cuffs, and pockets. Expect food and wine stains. These are a fact of life.
